Dhaka, Nov 14 (bdnews24.com)-- Pakistan prime minister Yousuf Raza Gillani has asked health officials to probe the causes of the death of former cricket captain Wasim Akram's wife Huma, who expired last month in a Chennai hospital due to multiple organ failures, reports PTI.

Federal sports minister Aftab Shah Jillani had gone to Akram's residence to offer condolences in Lahore and was told by the former captain that his wife's death was a result of doctors' negligence in two hospitals of Lahore.

"Wasim had demanded that the federal health officials investigate into then treatment provided to his wife in Lahore," one government official said.

"Wasim was unhappy with the treatment provided to his wife in Lahore by Pakistani doctors who he felt didn't do a correct diagnosis which forced him to take her to Singapore for treatment," the official said.

Wasim was taking Huma to Singapore in an air ambulance when she suffered a heart attack while the plane stopped in Chennai for refueling.

"Wasim said he was satisfied with the level of treatment provided to his wife in the Indian hospital and said the doctors there had done everything possible to revive her," the official said.

Sources said the federal health investigators had been given a detailed eight page medical report on Huma Akram to start their investigations.
