Dhaka, Nov 24 (bdnews24.com) – Police were sent notice Tuesday to stop cattle markets in the capital's streets and open places in line with a High Court order.

Supreme Court lawyer Manzil Morshed sent the notice to inspector general of police and Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner to close all illegal markets within 24 hours.

The legal notice warned of contempt charges if the illegal cattle markets were not closed within the period.

It also mentioned the High Court's order to authorities, based on a writ petition on June 29, to ban cattle markets in streets and open places of the city.

It referred to various media reports of cattle markets established without permission from the city corporation.

The lack of action on this matter was a breach of the High Court's ruling and equivalent to contempt of court, the notice said.

Monjil Morshed told bdnews24.com, "The notice was faxed to the IGP and Dhaka metropolitan police commissioner."
