8 more killed in road crashes

Dhaka, Dec 1 (bdnews24.com)—Eight people died in road accidents in Gazipur, Moulvibazar and Faridpur on Tuesday.

Three died in Bagherbazar in Gazipur Sadar, three in Hingajia of Kulaura, one in Lohaiuni tea plantation area in Moulvibazar and one in Faridpur.

In Gazipur, a Dhaka-bound bus collied with an oncoming truck on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, leaving three killed and 10 injured, sergeant Mostafizur Rahman of Naojor Highway Police said.

Babul Miah, 45, of Bagna area of Keraniganj, a 22-year old unknown woman and a 55-year old unidentified were the casualties. Two of them were killed on the spot and another died on way to Gazipur hospital. The truck fled away.

Kulaura police chief Iqbal Ahmed said the collision between a bus and a CNG-run autorickshaw at Hingajia on Kulaura-Shamsernagar highway killed three on the spot. Their identity was not immediately known.

Injured autorickshaw driver Badrul Islam and four passengers were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital. Angry people blocked traffic on Kulaura-Shamshernagar highway for one hour.

Lohaiuni tea garden manager Tayeb Ali said tea worker Chitta Bhumij died on the spot when he was run over by a bus, which police later seized. Agitating tea plantation workers blocked the road for three hours from 10am.

In the other incident, 'Kuddus', a driver of Nasimon, was killed when the vehicle was hit by a bus. He was on way from Majkandi to Faridpur.

At least 42 people were killed in road accidents around the country during the holiday period, from Friday morning to Monday evening.
