Dhaka, Mar 9 (bdnews24.com) – The High Court on Tuesday issued a contempt of court rule against Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman and assistant editor Mizanur Rahman for a report on alleged irregularities in bail procedures of the court.

The newsmen were asked to show cause within four weeks why the court should not take steps against them for contempt.

The bench of Justices Nazmun Ara Sultana and Md Rais Uddin gave the ruling on a contempt petition by Supreme Court lawyer Md Fakhruddin.

The petition said that a report titled 'Huge irregularities in granting bail' published in the Bangla-language daily Prothom Alo on Feb 14, which included photographs and names of two High Court judges, was 'contemptuous' and tarnished the dignity of the court.

The petitioner was represented by Adv Mostofa Golam Kibria.
