DRU election: Sabu president, Shahed GS

Dhaka, Nov 30 (BDNEWS) – Shafiqul Karim Sabu, senior reporter of BSS and Shahed Chowdhury, senior reporter to daily Shamokal, were elected as president and general secretary of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the annual election held Wednesday.

The election was held at the DRU premises where 518 members out of 619 members cast their votes through electronic voting machine.

In the election, Shafikul Karim Sabu bagged 281 votes while his nearest rival Mahmuda Chowdhury, senior reporter to daily Dinkal, got 195 votes.

Meanwhile, Shahed Chowdhury got 302 votes to become general secretary beating his nearest rival Shakhawat Hossain Badshah, staff reporter to daily Inqilab, who got 183 votes.

Saiful Islam of news agency ABAS was elected as the vice-president getting 291 votes while his nearest candidate Ashraf Ali of Nayadiganta got 215 votes.

Ilias Khan was elected as the join secretary getting the highest 364 votes while Siddiqur Rahman of Bhorer Kagoj was elected the finance secretary (303), Shakhwat Hossain Apu of Financial Express Publicity & Publication secretary and Saiful Islam of New Nation office secretary.

Azmal Huq Helal, Aiyub Ansari, Shankar Moitra, Aminul Huq Bhuiyan, Mirza Mehedi Tomal, Majibur Rahman, Amia Ghatak Pulak, Shariful Islam, Patrik De Kosta and Manjurul Bari Nayan were elected as the members.

Besides, four candidates were elected unopposed. They are Hasan Arefin of Jugantar, organising secretary, Mahbub Matin of Channel I, Training & Research secretary, Shafiul Alam Raja of Jugantar, cultural secretary and Kazi Imrul Kabir Suman of Manav Jamin, sports secretary.
