100 injured in a clash in Habiganj

Habiganj, March 11 (BDNEWS)- More than 100 people were injured Saturday in a clash among the people of 9 villages in Habiganj sadar upazila over a trifling matter.

Witnesses and locals said followed by an altercation between two men of Nitaierchak and Paschim Katakhali village centring buying of a fish at Sadhur bazar on Friday, the two villagers were locked in a fierce clash on Saturday.

The incident ignited fury among the other villages and more than 1,000 people of Chanpur, Sadhur Bazar, Godainagar, Joyrampur, Patli, Ratanpur, Kandigaon villages also became engaged in the clash.

After being informed a magistrate and Additional Police Super with several platoons of police reached the spot. Police fired 10 rounds of rubber bullets and 4 rounds of tear shells to bring the situation under control.

The clash left at least 100 villagers injured. The injured were rushed to the Habiganj Sadar Hospital. Of them 30 were in critical condition.
