After a commission meeting on Tuesday, Election Commissioner Abdul Mobarak told bdnews24.com they would be asked why their candidature would not be cancelled.

Afil was elected uncontested and Monirul in the Jan 5 voting.

Commission officials said its legal wing was sending the show-cause notice to their addresses in Jessore and Dhaka on Tuesday night.

The notices will ask them if they will attend a hearing before the commission in person.

Md Shahin-ul-Kabir, a polling agent of the candidate contesting with ‘Pitcher’ symbol against Monirul, lodged complaints with the EC over their violation of code of conduct.

He alleged that the Afil had urged Awami League activists in a meeting on Dec 30 to ensure win of Monirul by seizing the polling centres.

Such a violation of code of conduct is condemnable to punishment as per section 81 (1) (F) of the Representation of the People Order (RPO).
