It has also made former district judge AFM Aminul Islam a commissioner in the graft watchdog.

Cabinet division’s Additional Secretary Muksodur Rahman Patwary confirmed bdnews24.com of the new appointments.

In August last year, Mahmood was appointed as the chief of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) while he was on post retirement leave after serving as an alternative executive director to the Asian Development Bank.

But, the BTRC appointment was cancelled after a month and Engineer Shahjahan Mahmood was made the chairman of the telecoms regulator.

Iqbal Mahmood became a secretary in June 2008 and was made the public administration ministry’s secretary the following year.

In 2012, the government created the post of ‘senior secretary’ and promoted eight bureaucrats, including Mahmood, who was the secretary to the Economic Relations Division at that time.

He was made the ADB’s alternate executive director in November that year.
