Haroon Habib gets back BSS job as special correspondent

The High Court Monday directed reinstatement of Haroon Habib as a special correspondent for the state-run news agency, BSS. A High Court bench of Justice ABM Khairul Haque and Justice Syed Md Ziaul Karim gave the verdict after a full hearing on three writ petitions filed by the former managing director and editor-in-chief of BSS. The HC declared cancellation of Habib's contract as the managing director and editor-in-chief and making him officer on special duty legal. But his termination as special correspondent has been declared illegal. The court ordered the authorities to pay Habib in 60 days from notification all dues from Aug 21, 2001 as special correspondent.

Dhaka, Aug 20 (bdnews24.com) – The High Court Monday directed reinstatement of Haroon Habib as a special correspondent for the state-run news agency, BSS.
A High Court bench of Justice ABM Khairul Haque and Justice Syed Md Ziaul Karim gave the verdict after a full hearing on three writ petitions filed by the former managing director and editor-in-chief of BSS.
The HC declared cancellation of Habib's contract as the managing director and editor-in-chief and making him officer on special duty legal. But his termination as special correspondent has been declared illegal.
The court ordered the authorities to pay Habib in 60 days from notification all dues from Aug 21, 2001 as special correspondent.
Also, Habib has been asked to join BSS as special correspondent in 30 days after getting a copy of the verdict. The court also ordered the authorities to accept his joining.
The court also ordered the authorities to inform it about the payment of Habib's dues and acceptance of his joining, Habib told bdnews24.com by phone.
Habib's counsel, barrister Amir-ul Islam, told bdnews24.com: "As a result of the verdict Haroon Habib will get back his job and his dues from August 21, 2001."
